for my computer art II final this past semester, we had to do a triptych of similar pieces. i chose to focus on portraits of oklahoma predators (i am from oklahoma). i chose the coyote, cougar, and red fox, all featuring a different native flower and landscape.
this was a HUGE stretch for me, as it's a style i don't usually work in, a huge filesize (i guess i work pretty small), and...i did backgrounds. and flowers. that's kind of a big deal for me ; ) lots of reference photos and long sighs.animal //
the coyote is an animal i grew up listening to in the late evenings, and generally hating. i lost many, many cats to those dang 'yotes. i've never seen one in the wild, but they practically lived in our backyard (er, back pasture). i stopped hating them, though. it's not their fault cats are easy dinners. they're very beautiful and i love the colors of their coats, their huge ears, their pointy muzzles.flower //
the flower is an indian paintbrush. they're rather common where i'm from and i rather enjoyed picking bouquets of them to give to my mother when i was younger.landscape //
the landscape i chose is scrublands similar to where i grew up. red dirt, lots of flat stretches of rock covered in dry lichens, and scrubby tall weeds and grass. flat and open, a big sky...
the map in the background is an old oklahoma map. since the three pieces are of different sizes and i wanted them all the same-sized squares for printing out for our final, i figured it would be better than blank white space.
